Abstract

Cycle rickshaws provide an important and popular means of transport in the urban, semi-urban, and rural areas in all parts of the country. In some cities and small towns, they are the major means of transport.A large number of poor rural-to-urban migrants tend to earn their livelihoods in this sector due to yearlong engagement and does not require any particular skill or particular training. Very few number of rickshaw puller have their own rickshaw. Therefore,two classes emerged in this sector- the owner and the labourer. Municipality hasabureaucratic control over the licensing policy and huge politics prevails in this sector. Present study focuses on the migration and livelihood pattern of the rickshaw puller. How they manage their everyday life and their contribution in urban informal economy
