ACCESSIBILITY TO, AWARENESS AND USAGE PATTERN OF ONLINE JOURNALS IN CENTRAL LIBRARY OF JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY

With the emergence of ICT, a drastic change is discerned in library services. The impact of ICT causes transition of traditional library into ICT enabled library. Vis-a-vis, a revolutionary change has been viewed in library resources, particularly in serial collection of a university library. A great shift from traditional print journals to online journals can be assessed in the 21st century. This study was conducted to explore availability of, the usage pattern of and level of awareness about and accessibility to the e-journals of the user community and to assess current user characteristics associated with use of online resource of Central Library, Jadavpur University. To investigate this, mainly survey method was adopted and a structured questionnaire had been distributed among 180 sample population which constitutes research scholars, Post Graduate students and Under Graduate students who use Central Library. But, it has been found that though 93.8% of the total respondents are aware of the availability of online journals but 80.9 % use the online journals. This paper contains major findings of the study and on the basis of those findings a set of suggestions has been given at the end.References
