IMPACT OF MICROINSURANCE :A CASE STUDY OF MEDINIPUR DISTRICT,WEST BENGAL

Humans always have the main aim to reduce risk and uncertainty in their lives.Microinsurance is a tool for rural poor in providing greater economic and psychological security as it reduces exposure to multiple risks and decreases the impact of a disaster.there is a great demand for social protection among the poor. financial inclusion of the poor by providing them with access to savings,credit and insurance forms an integral part of the package of livelihood promotion services that the poor require.
This paper tries to throw light on the above issues but focussing on Medinipur district of West Bengal.A mix of qualitative and quantitative methods such as household surveying, direct observation, key-informant interviews, were employed for data collection.The primary data has been collected from respondents of villages of this district. Tools applied to analyse the primary data were percentage and chi square analysis. The main objective of the study is to estimate the demand for different microinsurance products.
