Development of a Methodology for Good and MGovernance using GIS
Abstract
Iin present times, it is evident that the mobile technology has shown its immense potential. The mobile
handsets are more powerful and computationally efficient than the computer which took the first space
shuttle to moon. With the growth of mobile and portable devices, users now have access to tons of
information on the touch of their finger. The growth of mobile technology has witnessed a development of
virtual world and people being part of it more that than the physical world now a days. With launch of
more and more sophisticated systems and portable computing devices the life of a common man is
becoming more flexible and tech savvy. Users having a good mobile handset can potentially do every stuff
they were doing with their laptops and desktops hence the population in majority is now drifting from
laptops to portable devices and so is the concept of governance. In mid of last decade in came the concept
of E-governance all of your complaints and services were made online and can be easily accessible by the
users, but with the advancement of mobile devices and introduction of high speed internet over the mobile
devices has no drifted the concept of governance to M-governance. With ease of development of high
quality mobile applications and shorter development cycle it is easier to port the already available
infrastructure for e-governance to work with mobile devices. The paper has touched the concept behind
using the M-governance system and tagging the services with geo location so as to create the spatial
awareness of the problems and complaints filed by the users for the respective services. A concept has
been presented that involves integration of mobile app, Google Maps and backend web services to
develop an effective M-governance system for addressing problems faced by population.
