HEALTH STATUS OF ELDERLY IN HARYANA: A CASE STUDY OF DISTRICT ROHTAK

Abstract

Normal ageing is a biological process not a disease but eventually leads to structural and functional decline and involves increased susceptibility to diseases. The present study examines the health status of elderly in district Rohtak of Haryana. It is based on secondary data as well as a sample of five hundred respondents from the rural and urban areas of the study area.  The analysis revealed that 65.6 per cent were suffering from one or the other health related problem. The analysis of occurrence of disease as per the age groups reveals that 60-70 years age is vulnerable as highest per cent age of sufferer are reported from this group only. Highest number of such elderly is reported in 60-70 age groups.  Joint problem followed by asthma is the major health issue. Overall males are more vulnerable to disease in the later part of life in comparison to females.
