In the literature of Economics, e-governance is the effective use of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) to improve the system of governance that is in place, and thus provide better services to the citizens. E-government involves multiple stages or phases of development and is not a one-step process. The present communication provides e-governance initiatives taken up by the central government in India. Analysis of our study shows that the government has taken up a lot of initiatives in e-governance in order to deliver more efficient and cost effective services, as well as better information and knowledge to the citizens.
