Sir Muhammad Iqbal widely known as Allama Iqbal was an academic, poet, barrister, philosopher and politician. He is considered one of the most important figures in Urdu literatre. Though Iqbal is widely regarded as an eminent poet, he is also highly acclaimed “Muslim philosophical thinker of modern times”. Iqbal is regarded as Shair-e-Mashriq (poet of east), Mufakkir-e-Pakistan (the thinker of Pakistan).
Iqbal was born in Sialkot on Nov 9th 1877 now in Pakistan. Iqbal completed matriculation in 1893. He received intermediate with the Faculty of Arts diploma from Murray College Sialkot in 1895. He qualified for Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in government College Lahore in 1897 and masters degree from the same college in 1899. Sir Thomas Arnold, his philosophy teacher at Lahore college influenced him to pursue higher education in the west. In 1905, he travelled to England for his higher education. Iqbal qualified for a scholarship from Trinity College, University of Cambridge and obtained Bachelor of Arts in 1906. He earned Ph.D in Philosophy from Ludwig Maxmilian University, Munich in 1908. He published his doctoral thesis in 1908 entitled: The Development of Metaphysics in Persia.
