Abstract

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar being a philanthropic, kind and generous social reformer was much moved with the pitiable and Pathetic condition and low status of women in Society and he was a torch bearer in direction of social uplift of women generally and Hindu women specially.  The Ambedkar was the determined father and a deep scholar has made significant efforts to lead the society on Path of Liberty, equality and fraternity. He was first Indian to brake down the barriers in the way of Advancement of women in India. He laid down the foundation of concrete and sincere efforts by codifying the common civil code for Hindus and other sections of the Indian Society.  He spent his life for the betterment of women even involved in bad practices and professionals like prostitutions.  Ambedkar created awareness among poor, illitrate women and inspired them to fight against the injustice and social practices like child marriage and devdasi system.  He also suggests strategies for emancipation from oppression.  He found their emancipation in Buddhist values, which promotes equality, self respect and education.  Ambedkar believes that Buddha treated women with respect and love and never tried to degrade them like manu did.  The reforms introduced by Dr,. Ambedkar through “Hindu Code Bill”: have been adhered to and have been accepted by and large.  He by codifying Hindu law in respect of Marriage, divorce and succession, rationalized and restored the dignity to women.  He sacrificed his whole life for amelioration of the women, scheduled castes, and scheduled tribes in the society.  Dr. B.R. Ambedkar the emancipator of the millions including Indian women.
