Abstract

Fingerprints analysis is one of the most important sources that are used for identification purposes. At present a lot of development and success has been achieved in the field of personal identification and individualization, such as DNA analysis, Biometrics, etc. but fingerprint identification remains as the best tool amongst them because of its easy availability and also low cost of recording data. As it is known that fingerprints of a person once formed cannot be changed during the whole life span. This forms the base to authenticate the results obtained. But the above said fact is not always applicable. Here, in our study we have chosen and considered the fingerprints of certain class of people attached with some particular occupation. The results obtained were surprising and soon the myth was broken that fingerprints are permanent. During our study on the fingerprints analysis of the persons associated with occupations such as washer men, labors and cobblers, we found that the fingerprints of these persons were so badly damaged or altered that there was hardly a chance for the identification of the person through them. So the desired study was done to find how badly the fingerprints can be damaged and how difficult is their identification when the person is into occupations like these.
