Abstract

The life is the consideration of people in Chandigarh. The maintenance of basic urban service is altogether different than the conventional old cities. Moreover, it is the regional center of three adjoining States of Punjab, Haryana ad Himachal. It is hub of political and bureaucratic activities of adjoining States. The high profile service provided by Chandigarh Administration & Municipal Corporation is a role model for other urban cities. The city Chandigarh is located in western side of river Gaggar and Shimla National highway. It is linked by rail with National Capital Delhi and hill station Shimla. The Union Territory Chandigarh is the first planed, beautiful and smoke free city in India. It is the capital of Punjab and Haryana States of India. In 1966, Punjab State was reorganized and Chandigarh became the Capital of Punjab & Haryana having an area of 70 sq. km. and 26 adjoining villages with an area of 44 sq. km. a total of 114 sq. km. The reorganization led to building of new towns in the adjoining States like SAS Nagar (Mohali) and Panchkula and hence, the need for co‐ordination in development with the States of Punjab and Haryana was felt. The city Chandigarh because of its unique concept is known as ‘City beautiful’.
