AEROMYCOFLORA STUDY OF A BUILDING WITH RESPECT TO THE SAMPLING HEIGHT

Abstract
Aeromycoflora simply refers to the airborne fungal contributors of the environment. It is defined as a discipline in which aerial transport of biological materials is studied. Overall fungal spores have a great response in everywhere for being ubiquitous and the concentration of aeromycoflora in different environment varies depending on the geographical regions, sampling height, seasonal variations and atmospheric conditions. Sampling height plays an important role for the dispersion of fungal spores in the atmosphere. . The objective of the present study was to isolate the aeroflora from different floors of the college campus and their identification and its relationship with the increasing sampling height.
The sample were collected from basement, ground floor, 1st , 2nd and 3rd floor by using gravity Petri plate method exposed at the height of 5 feet from ground level from each floor. A total of 129 fungal colonies isolated and were identified which comprised the species of Aspergillus, Alternaria, Cladosporium, Candida, Rhizopus, etc . Percentage contribution of aeromycoflora at basement was 24.03%, followed by 19.379% of Ground floor, 1st and 2nd floor, followed by 17.829% of 3rd floor indicating that as the sampling height increases the percentage contribution of fungal spores decreases.
