REFLECTION OF DANCERS IN KARNATAKA INSCRIPTIONS
Keywords:
Abstract
The study of inscriptions in Karnataka is being undertaken at two stages. The first stage comprises the survey of inscriptions, their collection, compilation and publication. It demands a special training and technical expertise. The scholars have been carrying it out orderly. Interpreting, analyzing the inscriptions so published, constructing history and undertaking research studies concerning linguistic, cultural and various other dimensions based on such inscriptions constitute the second stage. Though a number of studies have been undertaken to construct political history, of late, cultural studies have been taken up only to a small extent. They focus on literature, education, administrative matters, economic issues, Veerashaiva devotee-poets, Ayagararu, the plebian communities in the society, women, religious conflicts, prostitutes and many other aspects. Extensive studies have been undertaken on a few of these issues while only brief studies have been taken up to explore a few other issues.
