Abstract
The Imperial Chola power reached the pinnacle of its glory by about 1000 A.D, its authority spread over the entire Tamil region and Kerala,parts of south Mysore and coastal Andhra and even overseas to Sri-Lanka , the Andaman’s, Lakshadweep and the Maldives. With the experience and knowhow acquired in stone construction, technique and design witnessed great activity in the construction of temples, particularly the great ones of south India and Sri-Lanka. A great number of temples were built by the Chola emperors Rajaraja Chola I (A.D 985-1014) , Rajendra I (A.D 1014-1044), Rajadhiraja I (A.D 1044-1052), Kulottunga I (A.D1070-1122), queens like Lokamahadevi and Cholamahadevi, vassal chiefs and some more still by the dowager queen Shembiyan Mahadevi, the queen of Gandharadatiya Chola.References
