Abstract

Freshwater habitats occupy a relatively small portion of the earth surface as compared to marine and terrestrial habitats, but their importance to man is far greater than their areas. Fresh water is the most suitable and cheapest source for domestic and industrial needs and they provide convenient waste disposal systems. Monitoring of the water quality of Hanumantal Pond in Katni was carried out for 2015. Three sampling station were selected. The Water sample  collected  were  analyzed  as  per  standard  method  such  as,  pH,  Dissolved  Oxygen (DO), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), chloride contents, Temperature, Total Alkalinity, Total dissolved solids, Chemical oxygen demand (COD), Nitrate, Phosphate were determine for the testing of water quality. The raised value of physico-chemical parameter indicated the pollution of the pond ecosystem due to domestic wastes, industrial effluents and agricultural runoff.
