Abstract

:-Increasing the need of electrical energy, the demand for receiving the high quality electrical energy is being increased in distribution systems. But due to the different disturbances affecting the power quality, the power quality in the present day distribution system is deteriorated due to, harmonics, , excessive neutral current, load unbalance and high reactive power burden etc. The different custom power devices are used for mitigation power quality issues. D-statcom (distribution static compensator) is one of the compensating devices used to control the flow of reactive power in power system. The complete background of facts devices and power electronic devices application in power system is presented in this paper. This paper presents the enhancement of voltage sags/swell; harmonic distortion and low power factor using Distribution Static Compensator (D-STATCOM). The model is based on the Voltage Source Converter (VSC) principle. D-STATCOM injects a current into the system to mitigate the voltage sags/swell and to improve harmonic distortion and low power factor
