Abstract

This paper attempts to bring out the struggle of the down trodden and opportunism of the powerful in Arundhati Roy’s novel The God of Small things .Roy has revealed how the rich people exploit the services of an untouchable and ultimately incriminate him in a false case when question of their own prestige and loss appears. The Ipe family and the political leader Comrade Pillai both exploit the poor Velutha for their own selfish purposes and desert him when he is fallen in trouble. Chacko , Pillai ,The police and Orangedrink Lemondrink man - all are opportunist and use their position to exploit the downtrodden or weaker folk
