COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT AND THE NEED OF COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY IN PUBLIC LIBRARY: AN OPINION

Abstract
Collection is the heart of a library.Collection development is animportant process. Collection development helps to build library collection to study, research, and recreational purpose. It helps to fulfil other needs of library users. Library collection covers both traditional and modern type of documents. Collection of a library grows in quality, size, use, coverage and value. Collection development policy is a printed declaration of library. It describes the collection's merits and demerits of a library. Library collection development depends on plan, budget, selection, acquisition, evaluation, preservation and weeding out policy after measuring user requirements. This paper focuses collection development and the need of collection development policy in public library.
