HUMAN CAPITAL FORMATION AND AGRICULTURE IN INDIA
Abstract
Traditional strategy and policy regarding conventional agricultural and rural development are mostly based on natural resource capital and certain differential- rent compensation. New economic order of the agricultural and rural multifunctional areas, the unavoidable process of degradation of natural resources and the changing consumption pattern of the population call attention to the role of education and research in the process of progressive agriculture growth. This transformation necessitates a considerable degree of substitution of natural capital to human capital in order to gain the sustained economic growth in agriculture and allied sectors. This paper examines the mode of the creation of human capital in agriculture and allied sectors through education and extension and its effects on transfer of technology to agriculture sector and also on agriculture productivity. Also identifies the various aspects related to human capital formation and agricultural development in the country by analysing the agricultural education, research and extension system prevailing in the country.References
