PERFORMANCE OF PRIMARY AGRICULTURE COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES IN HIMACHAL PRADESH: AN APPRAISAL

The development of the economy of any country or state; income generating sector like agriculture, industry and service sector should be developed. Agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy and prosperity of agriculture can significantly contribute to the general prosperity of the nation. In India, most of the people are depend on the agriculture sector. Agriculture development is an integrate part of overall economic development. It is quite pertinent that all these sector of our economy needs planned handling as otherwise it can arrest the development of the entire economy. Cooperative societies are playing significant role in the development of the economy. Cooperative society emerged as a strong instrument of interlinking people together for joint work for common purpose. There are so many types of cooperative societies are working in Himachal Pradesh. These are like Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS), weaving societies, housing societies, consumer societies and dairy societies etc. H.P. is a hilly area most of the people live in rural area and main source of their earning is agriculture sector. PACS are helping farmers by providing good facilities for the farmers in agriculture work. PACS has improved agriculture sector by providing credit for buying good inputs like fertilizers, seeds, pesticides and marketing facilities etc. for the members of the societies. In H.P. maximum numbers of societies are formed under PACS. This paper deals with the secondary study on Performance of Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies in Himachal Pradesh : An Appraisal. The study has undertaken keeping in the view the benefits of PACS also in mind. Secondary data collected from different journals, magazines and Annual Administrated Reports of Cooperative Department of H.P., Shimla. Data has analyzed by using Average Compound Growth Rate(ACGR).References
