Abstract

Recently there has been a focus on inflation in print and electronic media, where it was stated that inflation during the month of November 14 was 0% based on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) and 4.4% based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) should cut the bench mark interest rate. People of normal prudence having little or no knowledge of Indian economy are confused over the jargons used by the media. They also question whether there is any decrease in the price of any commodity or articles, if yes, to what extent? Hence, it becomes important to know about inflation and other related terminology such as deflation, disinflation, hyper-inflation, stagflation etc. and their impact on common man.
