The growth and development of an urban centre is largely influenced by its intra-public transport system. The paper takes into account the different aspects of the intra-public transport system of Barddhaman Municipality, Dist.- Barddhaman, West Bengal. It deals with the different modes of public transport of the town with special emphasis on the intra- town bus service. Recently Barddhaman town has undergone a change in the location of bus stand. The paper also attempts to capture the positive and negative impact of the change on the surrounding retail shops. Finally the paper addresses several problems and their general solutions concerned with the smooth functioning of the intra-public transportation of the town.
