Economic reforms taken in India in the year 1991 led Indian corporates to achieve competitive edge as the foreign players are invited to India to expose Indian market. Indian corporates have understood the challenges from external players and to defeat with such challenges, corporate restructuring was the best option to avail with. Mergers and acquisitions mean achieving synergy. One plus one is not true but it’s much more than two and that is what merger and acquisition mean. The similar types of opportunities and threats have been identified by Tatas and they are one of biggest, successful and most respectful group of India and world as well by having almost 150 plus M&A deals from April 1988 to till date. It’s an attempt of an author to analyze the pre and post financial performance of two of the Tata group of companies and to offer the findings, suggestions and conclusions.
