Emotional Intelligence In Relation To Emotional Maturity And Emotional Competence Of Secondary School Students
Abstract
In all the stages of development human being crosses adolescence is the most complex period of human life. There are several problems which the adolescents have to face in this period such as emotional, physical, personal, psychological, social, behavioral etc. Due to the emergence of these problems, their behavior deviates from the normal pattern. They exhibit these deviations by aggressiveness, emotional immaturity, irritability and sense of insecurity in their behaviour because nothing seems to be going in the way desired by them because of various conflicts and freewill expectations in their mind.The specific objectives of the study were to: the relationship between emotional intelligence and emotional maturity of secondary schoolstudents, and the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Emotional competence of secondary school students. The participants of the study consisted of all the freshman students who were accepted during the first semester of the academic year 2014-2015. Sevenfold Emotional Intelligence Scale (SFEIS) standardized and cross validated by Khera, Ahuja&SarbjitKaur (2002), Emotional Maturity scale by Dr. Yashvirsingh&Dr. Mahesh bhargava in 2002, and Emotional Competence scale by Dr. H.C Shrama&Dr. R.L Bhardwaj. The study was conducted on 200 students in senior secondary schools in Faridabad city (Haryana). Results showed that there is no statistical significant correlation between the emotional intelligence and emotional maturity of the students.
