Information Sources and Services among Departmental Libraries in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar
Abstract
Libraries today are recognized as the institutions of a great importance in the society. These provides nascent information of their readers to update their knowledge. The university library is considered as the “Heart of the University”, the sun around which teaching and research revolves is widely hailed. Departmental libraries which are maintained at university expenses primarily sum up the needs of a single department of study as recognized in the statutes and ordinances. Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar has one main library namely, Bhai Gurdas Central Library which has been named after the great Sikh Scholar Bhai Gurdas and 18 departmental libraries. The university library is one of the most prestigious & well known library in the north zone of India. It is a marvel and master piece of architecture surrounded by teaching departments all around. The present paper is an attempt to provide the information about information sources and services among the Departmental Libraries in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
