Abstract

Industries producing thick metal sections, space and airplanes have shown remarkable (alarming) interest in the hybrid welding process due to its sheer advantages when compared with the fundamental processes of welding. The hybrid welding process has vast potential in extending its applications in different fields like laser, plasma, arc, and adhesives. As a fringe benefit, it provides significant improvements in weld quality and efficiency of processes in manufacturing applications. This study delineates the principles, means and applications of plethora of hybrid welding processes. The objective of the work is to introduce the different hybrid processes and to discuss how the technology may be adopted in industrial applications.

The main argument of thesis is that the profound understanding of the advanced technology of hybrid welding will improve the productivity of welding in various industrial applications. Based on literature review, important areas for further research have been identified.
