BALANCING, EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY AN INDIAN PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to examine problems associated with trainingfacilities, in particular resource problems, staffing, research inactivity and issues of
academic rigour, and to establish the extent to which these have resulted in a changed
approach for hospitality management education in India.
Design/methodology/approach – Uses structured interviews with educationists and
industrialists to identify the key issues.
Practical implications – Identifies the need for collaborative development between the
educational institutes and industry, especially in relation to the ongoing development of in
the workplace.
Originality/value – Focuses on feasible educational approaches (about what and how to
teach), and by taking into account the private characteristics (of firms and students).
Therefore, balancing hospitality education and training is both possible and beneficial to all
stakeholders involved.
