MEDIA EXPOSURE AMONG THE ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES OF URBAN GOVERNANCE IN KARNATAKA: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY.

Abstract

With the advent of Information Technology and its revolution, Democracy in India is in its transition stage, and E- state governance will be the future trend as the research forecasts are predicted. In order to protect, safeguard, and to bring transparency in the monitoring of Indian Democracy, Information technology and its wide spread applications are going to be the life blood of next generation governance, rural, urban and political as a whole.

          The proposed research article is a part of my PhD dissertation work on “Media Habits and Information Level: A Study of City Corporators in Karnataka State”. The research has focused more on the urban governance and its major stake holders-The Corporators, and their media habits and information level, from the well represented civil society.

          The current study is designed to provide certain empirical evidences with regard to media exposure among the elected representatives of urban governance in Karnataka. The variable such as gender, age, education (Independent Variables) and Professional Background of City Corporators, Communication Media Exposure of City Corporators Dependency on Communication Media among City Corporators, Uses of Communication Media, Gratifications of Communication Media (Dependent Variables) is included in the questionnaire. A convenient sample of 544 (Mysore, Bangalore, Belgaum and Gulbarga) Corporators is taken as the research sample size. The chi-square analysis technique is used to study the significant association among the demographic profile and the Media exposure among the selected Corporators from Bangalore and Mysore in comparison with each other.
