Abstract

This study was an attempt to investigate the collection development activities in the Private university libraries of Bhopal division. Survey method was users and employed to conduct the research. The study covered all those well-established private sector universities of the province which were chartered by the Government of M.P. and recognized by AICTE/UGC. Collection development is one of basic tasks in university libraries. In recent years traditional formats for information, such as books and microfilm, have increasingly been supplemented by information which is accessible electronically through the use of computer technology. Hence the existing collection development policy of libraries must include selection criteria and collection parameters covering these new media formats. This paper deals with the concept of collection development, electronic collection and collection development policy. The central libraries of private sector universities of Bhopal. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire from the Users and librarian. The study found that all private sector universities develop and manage their collections according to requirements of the patron community.
