Abstract

This paper is an attempt to explore the conventions and the traditions that are followed in the hills by the village folks and how these conventions come at loggerheads with the modern ways of livelihood that the younger generation would like to follow. Though still rooted in their traditions, there is no way they can continue with them in the urban areas where they shift, to attain higher education or to earn their livelihood. Looking at this from the casteist, feminist, environmentalist, and religious perspectives, the conventions become difficult to be adopted in the same manner, and hence the relevance of these traditions has to be adapted to instill a few aspects of contemporaneity in them.In the wake of the new generation striving to attain professional heights and explore their employability skills and capabilities.
